How to compete your Portuguese Will: Basics 101

This webinar covers the fundamentals of Portuguese wills, highlighting important differences that immigrants / expats should be aware of compared to wills from their home countries. It is not a legal guide for drafting a will, but is an educational resource on Portuguese succession law. If you are a resident in Portugal, foreign wills, by themselves, are not recognized here and Portuguese law will prevail on your estate. Our goal is to emphasize the importance of proper estate planning so that your assets are protected and distributed as you wish.

Topic areas include:
– Intestate Succession and Forced Heirship
– The difference between Portuguese Wills and Foreign Wills
– The difference between a Living Will (advance directive) and a Portuguese Will

In creating this webinar, we polled some immigrants to try and address many of your questions AND we know we did not address each individual nuance.  Therefore, we urge all residents to consult with their families and a qualified legal professional to prepare the necessary documents for their specific situation.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Advogado team at PCFP:  Pinto-Cardoso -Fuzeta da Ponte located here in Setúbal, for their partnership in bringing this webinar to life.  We could not have done this without their generous donation of time and expertise.

Your Emergency Plan Structure Webinar

Deepest Thanks to Diane Bassett for offering a webinar on January 15th, 2025 on creating your Emergency Plan Structure. This video instructs you on how to create QR codes that allow the right information to get to the right person at the right time, should a medical emergency occur and you are unable to speak for yourself.

The recording of that webinar is here and we will also post associated files that are referenced in the video.

There are also 3 files to accompany the video and these are below (click to view):

  1. Instructions on creating QR codes
  2. A pdf of the slides used in the presentation
  3. A spreadsheet listing emergency cards and Portugal agencies
